GI Bill
November 2008 - Fixing the New GI Bill is COA’s top Legislative priority for 2009.[1] The COA’s Legislation and Benefits Committee, chaired by CAPT Steve Rosenthal, has proposed that COA undertake an aggressive advocacy effort to convince Congress to include the PHS Commissioned Corps and the NOAA Commissioned Corps in the New GI Bill. Until this is accomplished, the Committee feels, fixing the GI Bill should be COA’s top legislative priority for 2008. The committee’s proposal, which calls for an energetic grassroots letter-writing campaign, was approved by the Board on October 29, 2008.
The Committee has directed COA staff to develop a “how-to” packet with writing tips, sample letters (written by committee members themselves), and other helpful information. To receive the packet, either electronically or via snail mail, write or call COA Government Relations Director Judy Rensberger at 866-366-9593.[2]
